1. Definition

 PVC tarpaulin:

A fabric with a fabric base and a PVC coating applied to one or both sides through a coating process. It is the most basic PVC composite material.

knife – coated fabric:

A subcategory of high-end PVC mesh fabric, it uses a scraped fabric process to evenly coat thick layers of PVC on both sides of a high-strength mesh. This high-performance fabric is then cured at high temperatures.

Mesh fabric:

Broadly speaking, it refers to fabric with a mesh-like base material and PVC layers on both sides. Processing methods include lamination and lamination. Scraped fabric is an upgraded version of this process.

2. Structure and Material Composition

PVC tarpaulin:

– Base material: A single-layer fabric (without mesh) such as ordinary polyester or canvas.

– Coating: PVC paste resin is evenly coated on the base fabric surface.The coating is thicker (0.3-0.6mm) (300-720gsm).

knife – coated fabric:

– Base Material: High-strength polyester mesh (fine mesh, strong tensile strength);

– Coating: High-purity PVC slurry is applied thickly （0.3-1mm）（300-1200gsm）to both sides of the mesh using a scraping process. The coating is deeply integrated with the mesh fibers, eliminating the risk of delamination.

Mesh fabric:

– Base Material: Mesh material such as polyester mesh or nylon mesh (coarser mesh);

– Coating: The PVC layer is laminated to both sides of the mesh using a laminating or laminating process. The coating is thinner (0.2-0.6mm) and has lower bonding strength than Scrape Cloth.

3. Flexibility

PVC tarpaulin: Offers good flexibility and can be folded into small areas, making it suitable for temporary storage.

knife – coated fabric:

 Due to its thick coating and high base material strength, it offers moderate flexibility. It exhibits a certain degree of stiffness when folded, but is also highly resistant to breakage (not prone to cracking).

Mesh fabric: Offers better flexibility than Scrape Cloth, is generally softer, and offers good impact resistance, making it suitable for applications requiring frequent deformation (such as inflatable products).

4. Applications

PVC tarpaulin: Temporary coverings (truck tarpaulins, construction site tarpaulins), agricultural greenhouses, simple tents, packaging fabrics, etc.

Knife-scraped fabric: Large-scale outdoor advertising (light boxes, anti-aircraft advertising), high-end tents (disaster relief/event tents), inflatable buildings, industrial wear-resistant covers, etc.

Mesh fabric: Inflatable toys (castles, slides), pools, mid- and low-end tents, amusement facility covers, waterproof bags, etc.

Proper maintenance can extend the life of fireproof cloth. Key points:

– Use appropriate cleaning methods: For minor stains, wipe with a dry or damp cloth. Fiberglass cloth should not be cleaned with a hard brush or water (to prevent fiber shedding).

– Store properly: After cleaning and drying, fold or roll the cloth and store in a cool, dry place. Avoid applying heavy pressure or prolonged compression to the folded area.

Fire blankets do not have a clear “shelf life,” but regular inspections are necessary:

– Check if the packaging is intact (to avoid moisture and insect damage);

– Inspect if the material is aged (e.g., whether fiberglass has become brittle or is shedding debris);

– Ensure the edge stitching is not loose (to prevent tearing during use).

It is recommended to inspect it every 2-3 years. For household fire blankets, replacement is advised every 5-8 years to ensure reliability.

Thickness (typically 0.3mm-1.0mm) and weight (e.g., 400g/㎡, 600g/㎡) are directly related to strength: the thicker and heavier the fabric, the stronger its tensile resistance and impact resistance, making it suitable for long-term outdoor use or load-bearing scenarios (such as large billboards, tents). Lighter and thinner versions (300-400g) are more suitable for temporary setups or lightweight applications (such as exhibition backdrops). The choice should be based on the usage cycle and environment.
